IMPORTANT!  PLEASE READ!!

There are ticks at 390 Gilbert Avenue. If you volunteer there, please do the following to minimize the risk of being bitten:

  • Use an U.S. Dept. of EPA-recommended insect/tick repellant. A list can be found at: http://cfpub.epa.gov/oppref/insect/search_results.cfm?Rangetime=&hidSelected=3&ProductName=&Ingredient=null&Company=null&Registration=&Submit=Search
  • Avoid the areas around the house that have heavy vegetation and high grass.
  • Keep ticks away from exposed skin long-sleeved shirts, long pants and high boots. (Long-sleeved shirts are probably not feasible in the summer, but at least wear long pants.)
  • Wear light-colored clothing to be able to see the ticks more clearly.
  • Periodically, do a full-body scan to check for ticks. If you find one, remove without squeezing it!
  • If you do get bitten, remove the tick carefully, apply alcohol or skin disinfectant and KEEP THE TICK FOR FUTURE REFERENCE OR TESTING.
  • Contact your primary care physician immediately for her/his instructions.
  • Read more about tick bite prevention or what to do if you have been bitten, visit the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) website at: http://www.cdc.gov/ticks/avoid/index.html and the U.S. EPA site at: http://epa.gov/pesticides/insect/preventive_actions.htm
